Larry McDonald formerly of JR’s has opened a new gay bar right smack next door to Broadways. The new lounge called Mo’s had it’s soft opening last night and those who attended are calling it a success! Larry is not the only familiar face at the new watering hole, patrons will also rediscover a few favorite-fired bartenders;again formerly of JR’s.

What the hell is this place??? Remember when they tried Serengti and that didn’t work??? A do over? Wait let ask this… Remember JRs and Larry messing that up too? what a good combo. I messed up bar with a messed up manager. Oh yeah and is he still drinking??????? Best of luck to this suck ass place!
It is about time Denver had a new “hang out”. Regardless of the history of the building or the staff, We owe it to the community to help expand our reach to one another. I
In response to “Bryan’s” above comment… Larry built JR’s with the lack of support from a distant and cheap owner. He and his staff created the environment for which many frequented daily. Both locals and family from around the country found it to be a destination.
I bid Mo’s, Larry and his new staff the best of luck and am excited to see how well he builds this new destination!
Larry does not own the bar. I have been there 4 times. It is a cool bar. He is managing only. it is a fun bar!
Well I will post again….Larry had support of the out of town owners. They are not cheap. The “environment” created was mostly young twinks with attitude. The rest of us left there. Go back now. A lot of the people that helped make JR’s a success are back because the attitude is gone. And why? Because they can’t go in there and drink for cheap! 50 cent Thursday’s are gone. Thank God! Yup, Larry drinks, and I wonder if he will make this new place a success….time will tell. And they aren’t trying to do Serenghetti…and for the record…Serenghetti has morphed into another successful bar. But since you are gay, you don’t know that! Because it is not a “gay” bar. But hit up MO’s…it is a fun place. Those who don’t like it….don’t need to be there! The nice thing is that people actually talk to each other…they are not texting or on their cell phones…..what a concept!
Obviously some of you have past issues with these people. I just moved to town and this bar is in my neighborhood. I love it! So, PLEASE, those of you who are bitter and have attitudes…PLEASE stay away. Keep the mojo happy. Kisses Larry!…Good Luck!
So, I guess it is time to respond to some of the comments on here. Mo’s is located at 1037 Broadway. It is open from 3pm till 2 am. Yes I am the GM here and we have some of the past employess of JR.’s as well as other bars in Denver. I and a handfull of people built JR.’s from the ground up, with the owner comming to Denver four times in 8 years so we must have done something right. So I wish them well and I wish us well.
Thanks, and hope to see you at our grand openning in May.
Mo’s
I went there for the 1st time on Friday. There was a decent crowd-maybe 20-25 people at that time. All decent looking men in their late twenties-thirties. The bar tenders are just as unfriendly and stuck-up as they’ve always been, but that is to be expected.
Larry’s done a nice job with the bar. It is clean and fresh-plus, drink prices were great. My only major complaint is the TERRIBLE choice in seating. The bar has 2-3 round tables with tall chairs (occupied by bar staff and their friends) and a series of leather sofas and side chairs. The music (good mix) was very loud. As such, it was impossible to sit down and carry on a conversation. One person on the sofa and another on a side chair made it impossible to hear anything that was being said-even by yellilng.
Lets hope Larry doesn’t throw on a dress, scream into a microphone and ruin this place!
I’ve always thought that Denver had too many gay bars for a city it’s size but I’m always glad to see a new gay bar or business open. I remember when J.R.s first opened. It was a beautiful place and I would have supported it but I felt the “attitude” that has been mentioned in some of these post. I soon found out that if you are a woman or an older man then the staff made you feel unwelcome. We, as a community need to stick together. I cannot abide prejudice from within the community, we get enough of that shit from the outside. If we can so easily demonstrate such bias against each other then what defense do we have left against the religious right when they are trying to take away what has taken us 40 years to build. Wake up bitches!
Alright, alright gang!
As always I welcome your comments and feedback, however I have decided that it’s time to close the comments on this posting.
I have visited Mo’s and think the bar and staff are great! It’s fab to see the familiar faces behind the bar again. As for JR’s. . . it is, was, and will continue to be a fantastic venue for Denver’s gay nightlife.
Peace! – Rich
